Floating frames create the illusion of canvas floating inside the picture frame without touching it.

The edges of the canvas are black for walnut and black frames and white for white frames.

We only bring pieces into our collection that are super high quality.

Each piece is thoroughly vetted and sizes + crops are thoughtfully considered as to not compromise the composition of each piece.

About the artist

Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941) was a Russian expressionist painter who made a significant contribution to the world of abstract art. Born in Torzhok, Russia, Jawlensky was initially trained in the military before his artistic inclinations led him to Munich, where he became part of the 'Neue Künstlervereinigung München' (New Artist's Association), later co-founding 'Der Blaue Reiter' (The Blue Rider) group.

Jawlensky's art evolved from landscapes and portraiture into abstract, emotive works characterized by his bold use of color and simplification of form. His later series, 'Meditations,' is celebrated for its spiritual intensity and pioneering approach to abstraction.

Jawlensky faced severe arthritis in his later years, restricting his ability to paint. Despite this, he persisted, creating small-scale works that delved even further into abstraction. His tenacious spirit and innovative approach have cemented his place in art history as a vital force in 20th-century expressionism.

Unframed paper print sizes 16 x 20 through 30 x 40 ship rolled in tubes from our printing partners. Orders including any of these sizes will ship separately.
